Team Dragon were in action on Saturday 24th May at a full contact show held at Glascote social club in Tamworth. The show was run by Lance Manyer under WKA rules.
The night was well run, and with 17 fights on the card there was plenty to watch - we all had a great evening.
Team Dragon were represented by ten spectators and two of our fighters - Tom Smart and Callum 'the Thug' Thompson.
First up for the Dragons in fight 8 was fourteen year old Tom Smart, fighting 3 x 1.5 minute rounds. He was pitted against a very strong and well matched fighter - Matt Lees from Winspers gym. Matt came out from the start and pushed Tom on to his back foot. After two rounds and a bleeding nose, Tom was told by coach Pete to give it his all as the fight was too close. It looked as if his opponent was told the same as both fighters came out with all guns blazing. The bell went for the end of the 3rd round and it was still too close to be able to know which way the judges would go. The ref called both fighters to the centre and - Tom had been given the decision. Thanks to Matt Lees for an excellent fight. Both lads showed that they are class fighters.
Fight number 15 saw seventeen year old Callum 'Thug' Tompson in action for the Dragons. His opponent from Walsall kickboxing gym was 23 year old Ian Dobson in a fight over 3 x 2 minute rounds. The bell went for round 1 and Ian came out like a raging bull. The two fighters exchanged some nice heavy kicks and punches, with Callum taking advantage of his superman punch. Knocking his opponent back he delivered a cross punch knocking Ian to the floor. Thug's dazed opponent gets up and takes an 8 count. The fight continues and a brave Ian goes forward at the Thug. Callum takes it in close then delivers a perfect hook to Ian's chin. He got up but was not going to beat the count. His legs had gone and the ref counted him out, the result - Callum is now celebrating his first knockout in the ring!
