REFUSE TO LOSE 5 FULL CONTACT SHOW

Pete's Report

Team Dragon had two members representing the team and England at the Refuse to Lose Full Contact Show on Saturday, October 25th, with both fighters up for a title shot.

Fight number eight had 15 year old Tom Smart take on a taller 16 year old from Wales, Dan Lee. The first round was close as both fighters tried to show the lead, and with a close battle it looked as if Dan from Wales may have edged the 1st round.

Round two, and after a few choice words from coach Pete Cook, Tom went out to regain his fast pace catching Dan with a well-timed hook and then a very strong round house to the head. Dan was all over the ring. The bell went for the finish of the round and Dan looked beaten, then the corner crew stopped the fight as he had a suspected fracture to the wrist along with bad bruising to the face. Tom was awarded the winner and British Champion.

Next up was Callum Thompson, fighting for the intercontinental title against a strong lad from Poland. This was a fight of bad luck, as Callum went out for round 1 he took the fight to the Polish lad. 30 seconds into the fight Callum put his opponent to the canvas with a well timed kick. The Polish lad got up and then took a cracking cross to take him to the canvas yet again. This was all one way traffic with the Pole on the receiving end, but with a very good chin. The last 10 seconds and both fighters went in at each other. With a clash of heads, the bell went and Callum came back to the corner, unfortunately with a bad cut above his eye. Coach Pete Cook and the medic had no choice but to stop the fight as the cut was large and deep and in need of attention.

As usual, both fighters looked good and with all their dedicated training proved to be too strong for their opponents. Bad luck for Callum - but that sometimes is part of the game - and well done to Tom for a very mature and strong performance.

You both made team Dragon proud.
