WUMA World Championships, Greece
14th - 16th November 2008

Dragon Four shine!

Team Dragon have done it yet again. Four of our boys went over to Greece to compete in the WUMA World Championships in Athens on the 14th, 15th and 16th.

Friday saw the light and full contact take place, and with Tom Smart on form we had our hopes set on a World title. He did not disappoint and excelled by taking 2 World titles in 2 different sections. Dean Cain also in action took a very hard knock and was unable to carry on, which left him with a well deserved 4th place. Colin Muress (BDMA) had Paul Mayfield fighting in 2 sections taking a 2nd and 3rd place.

Saturday was a rest day for the lads, on to Sunday and the three lads were in action with Tom up first. With two titles to his name already, could he make it 3 out of 3? Well - yes, and that makes Tom 3 times WUMA World Champion. Next was Dean and again he took the same result as he did in the light contact : 4th place.
Last up was Ben Smart who over the last few months has gained remarkable timing and speed along with the belief that he could win. He was entered in the -70 and -75kg sections, and with some hard opposition from the Italians Ben shone through to gain both World titles in both weight sections.

Result
Tom Smart (UFBDA) 1st light continuous, 1st Light continuous 1st semi contact
Ben Smart (UFBDA) 1st semi contact, 1st semi contact
Dean Cain (UFBDA) 4th light continuous, 4th semi contact
Paul Mayfield (BDMA) 2nd light continuous, 3rd light continuous

What can I say...? Apart from well done, lads and I can't tell you how proud I am of you. You have as usual showed everyone how competitive the dragons are. What a result!
