On Saturday November 6th, Pete Cook will be holding a Self Defence seminar from 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 at Ruston Sports Club.

This will be followed at 6.00 p.m. by the regular UFBDA Fight Night. With Cookie back in the UK for only a short visit, this is definitely a date not to miss.

The Thursday club is moving from Birchwood Leisure Centre to the Scout Hut on Woodfield Avenue. This is from next Thursday Oct 14th. For info and street map see the club's page HERE.

The Dragons' new website ufbda.com replaces the original site that's been online for the past eight years. Please update your bookmarks to the new .com address.

This week, we are sorry to announce the closure of the Dragons' club in Newark. Though it has been a happy and successful club in its time, it is unfortunately no longer economic to keep it running. Saying goodbye is particularly sad since this was the very first club opened by Pete Cook in the UFBDA's early days.

We would like to thank all students past and present for their support, and anyone who is a past or present Newark member and wants to continue is of course welcome to transfer to any of our other clubs.

Well done to Phoebe Coleman in the Queensland State titles freestyle sparring - 1st place and qualified to compete in November in Sydney for Australian title. If she gets placed she will qualify to fight in Japan :)

Congratulations to Dragon Louise Laverick, proud mum of Mia Louise, who came into the world at 00.30 today, weighing in at 8lb 10oz. We all send our best to mother and baby :o)

Advance notice that the next Colour Belt Grading will be on Sunday, September 12th, and not the 5th as published on the calendar. The venue is as before - Ruston Club, and it is only the date which has changed!

From this Friday - August 6th - the Friday evening clubs will move from Yarborough Leisure centre to the hall at Ermine United Reformed Church on Sudbrooke Drive. This is only about half a mile away from Yarborough LC, and is quite easy to find. Club times are unchanged.

This will include fitness training, points, Light and Full, MMA and Circuits - the full works! Contact Callum if you need any further info.

Congratulations to Callum and Tom on their stunning successes in Tamworth on Saturday, April 24th. Callum was up against Steve Clews from Stealth Gym. His match was a British Title Eliminator fight, over 3 x 2 minute rounds. Callum won by a TKO in the final round.

Tom was fighting for the WKA Midlands Area -62kg title, against Adam Myra from the Black Country. Tom's result was equally if not more impressive, a second round KO.

This was very good show, well run, with two strong performances. Callum would also like to offer, "a big thank you to Lance and the TKA team for getting us our fights and having us on their show."

Yesterday evening, the Dragons, friends and family assembled at Ruston Sports Club for the latest Fight Night. A good sized crowd were on hand to cheer the fighters on, and to praise the award winners at the presentation ceremonies. Well done to all fighters, and congratulations to the award winners. Saturday March 27th sees the next Fight Night, at Ruston Sports & Social Club. Note: this will also be the UFBDA Presentation Night. Start time: 6.30 p.m.

Three of our Dragons were in action over the weekend - Tom, Matty and Roy - at Shane Varney's WTKA English Open on Sunday.

Says Callum: "a cracking tournament with some of my lads fighting. They all did the Dragons and myself very proud"

Callum's report: Tom came joint first in MMA. It was a round robin and all the lads won one each. The ref decided a joint 1st was the best idea after they had just beaten the cr*p out of each other.

Roy missed out in patterns, but got a second in points - he had a couple of cracking fights.

Matty got a second, fighting a lad in MMA. But, the ref stopped it after about 2 minutes, because Matty was not defending himself enough. Hats off to Matty as he's only been training in MMA for two months, and kickboxing just one month.

Well done to Tom, Matty and Roy - you did the Dragons proud lads!

Pete's comment: nice 1 lads - keep the flag flying. Dragons starting a new year in good form!
